Metropolis show choir wins grant

The Metropolis Performing Arts Centre in Arlington Heights has received a grant from Chicago Sun-Times’ Sun Shine Project in support of its new Limelight Singers show choir program.

The Sun-Times Charity Trust awards grants to charities in the Chicago area that support youth in education, art and civic causes. This year, the Trust established the Sun Shine Project to help “shine a light” on deserving nonprofit organizations and awarded more than $500,000 to more than 40 different organizations. As part of the contest, visitors to the Sun Shine website were allowed to cast votes for their favorite projects.

Metropolis is proud to be one of the organizations awarded a $5,000 grant by the Sun Shine Project. This money will specifically support the new Limelight Singers show choir program, started in fall 2011 as an additional ensemble group for Metropolis School of the Performing Arts’ talented vocal students. The group already has two performances under their belt, and more than a half dozen more scheduled through the spring of 2012, including performances on Metropolis’ main stage with professional artists and bands.

Metropolis School of the Performing Arts provides extracurricular arts classes and performance opportunities, a community of friends with similar interests, an accepting environment, and the opportunity to progress to an elite level within the performing arts. Visit MetropolisArts.com/sopa.
