2 arrested in connection with Cumberland slayings
CUMBERLAND, Ind. — Indianapolis-area police have arrested two men in connection with the fatal shootings of a Cumberland man and his niece.
Authorities say 25-year-old Jeremy Priel and 22-year-old Michael Bell Jr. face preliminary charges of murder after the Monday slayings of 21-year-old Jeremy Crane and 7-year-old Kyleigh Crane. The girl had stayed home sick from school that day at the home her uncle shared with his mother.
The Indianapolis Star and WTHR-TV report Bell surrendered early Sunday and Priel was arrested hours later.
Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says he doesn’t expect any further arrests. He says investigators have recovered the weapon used in the shootings.
Both men are in the Marion County Jail in Indianapolis. It’s unclear from jail records whether either man has an attorney.
