Our American family is stressed out
Thanksgiving is a time to be grateful, spend time with family and friends, and eat from the bounty of God’s good earth. But maybe it should be the day we celebrate the birth of Christ instead of the stressed-out season Christmas has become for so many.
Christmas celebrates the family (Nativity). A mother, a stepfather and a baby (a new beginning). Even if you don’t believe he is the son of God, his life and teachings guide us on our journey to love and forgiveness.
Christmas has been reduced to greed. The panic in the retail industry, promoted by the media, is for that first dollar. Stores opening all hours of the night with bargains to lure the budget-strapped consumer needing to “save Christmas.” Greedy government, greedy unions and the people taking advantage of the system — all individuals contributing to our American family’s decay. Our American family is in so much stress today that we should be put on the endangered species list so that we all wake up and do our part to save it.
Let’s put caring, sharing and love back into the meaning of Christmas and cherish our family, our American family, our world family — God’s family.
Merry Christmas and peace.
