Gurnee police holiday campaign:
Gurnee police will start a special holiday traffic enforcement campaign Monday and continue the effort through Jan. 1. The police department recently secured a traffic enforcement grant through the Illinois Department of Transportation. It’ll be the second of 15 campaigns for the grant year that extends into 2012. Gurnee police will handle at least 40 extra hours of saturation patrols throughout the village with an emphasis on occupant protection. All of the patrols will occur between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. In addition, the holiday campaign will involve a minimum of 40 extra hours of specialized patrol to combat drunken and drugged driving along with speeding at all hours. Grant-funded campaigns are conducted in addition to officers’ regular patrol and enforcement responsibilities.
