Thermo Fisher to close 2nd plant in Two Rivers
TWO RIVERS, Wis. — A lab equipment maker plans to close a second plant in Two Rivers, leaving about 190 workers without jobs.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced Wednesday it’s moving the jobs from its 18th Street wood manufacturing plant to Round Rock, Texas. The company says the reductions will begin in March and will be completed by the end of September.
WLUK-TV reports the company says 150 non-manufacturing jobs will remain in Two Rivers. The 18th Street facility is also the site of Thermo Fisher’s management offices.
Thermo Fisher announced in September the closure of its Two Rivers steel manufacturing plant on Columbus Street by year’s end. That move resulted in the loss of about 120 jobs, which are going to Mexico.
