N. Ind. man wants off state list of sex predators
VALPARAISO, Ind. — A northern Indiana man says he was unlawfully classified as a sexually violent predator when he was convicted of sexually abusing his girlfriend’s sister.
Twenty-four-year-old Alejandro Quiles Jr. is asking a Porter circuit judge to order him removed from the state’s sexually violent predator list and reduce his seven-year prison sentence.
A hearing was set for February.
Quiles’ attorney argued at a hearing Tuesday in Valparaiso that at the time of his offense, the court was required to consult with experts before classifying someone as a sexually violent offender.
The Times of Munster reports Quiles pleaded guilty to criminal deviate conduct, stemming from an incident in 2008. Quiles’ girlfriend at the time called police after discovering nude photographs of herself and her sister on Quiles’ computer.
