Milwaukee museum to show Arnold Newman photos
MILWAUKEE — The Jewish Museum Milwaukee plans to open a photography exhibit of Jewish public figures taken by photographer Arnold Newman.
Newman was known for his “environmental portraits” of artists and politicians. He would reveal the essence of their work and personality through evocative settings and lighting. He died in 2006.
The exhibit will include photos of Golda Meir, Leonard Bernstein, Marc Chagall and Jonas Salk. Newman’s work spans six decades dating from the early 1940s.
The exhibit, called “One World, One people: Jewish Photographic Portraits by Arnold Newman,” opens on Christmas Day and will run through March 30.
It was produced by the Jewish Museum of Florida, Miami Beach.
