Couple killed, 2 escape house fire in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Allen County Coroner’s Office says an engaged couple killed in a fast-moving house fire in Fort Wayne died of smoke inhalation.

The victims were identified as 20-year-old Carson Tubbs and 19-year-old Jonette Chacon. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the one-story house shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire department officials said Chacon’s mother reported she woke up shortly after 3:30 a.m., smelled smoke and was able to escape with another daughter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
