‘Vantage Point’ exhibit coming to North Central

Multimedia artwork by North Central College faculty and alumni will be featured in the exhibit “Vantage Point” Jan. 13 to March 4 at the Naperville school.

The exhibit highlights the works of alumni who were students of Associate Professor of Art Barry Skurkis, whose own artwork also is featured in the display.

The exhibit is free and open to the public in the college’s Schoenherr Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. An artist reception will take place 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 13, where guests can meet Skurkis and the other artists involved. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

As North Central College celebrates its sesquicentennial, the work of art students and faculty through the years is being recalled. The longest-serving member of the department is artist and professor emerita Diane Duvigneaud, who taught at the college from 1945 to 1983.

During her 38 years of service, Duvigneaud instilled the creativity and passion for the arts that current students and professors thrive on. The college’s Diane Duvigneaud Senior Art Award is presented annually to a North Central student who demonstrates exceptional growth and creativity during their studies.

“Vantage Point” celebrates Duvigneaud’s legacy and reflects the continuity and high expectations apparent throughout the history of the art department.

The diversity of works in the exhibit highlights a combination of professional development, artistic styles and personal accomplishments, revealing the commitment of the college to the fine arts and its alumni.

Schoenherr Gallery’s hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Saturday; noon to 5 p.m. Sunday; and one hour before most performances in the Fine Arts Center. Contact Nickole C. Lanham, North Central’s gallery director, at (630) 637-5375 or nclanhammurray@noctrl.edu to learn more about the exhibit.

Art, art history and art education are among more than 55 undergraduate majors offered at North Central College.
