School band seeks donations:

Thirty students from the sixth-grade cadet band of Frederick School in Grayslake will give a volunteer performance outside a supermarket to help spur donations to the needy Tuesday, Dec. 20. The children will be at Salvation Army kettles at the Jewel at 885 E. Belvidere Road in Grayslake. The students will perform instrumental holiday songs from noon to 2 p.m. Officials said Frederick’s music program for fifth- and sixth-graders has flourished since Grayslake Elementary District 46 reinstated music as part of the curriculum in 2007. Frederick band membership has ranged from 250 to 280 students. Under the direction of Eric Rivera and Aaron Mulder, the sixth-grade cadet band has received several Division 1 ratings from the Illinois Music Grade School Association.
