Palatine Jaycees host Christmas tree sale

The Palatine Jaycees are hosting the 54th annual Christmas tree sale in the Palatine Park District Aquatic Center parking lot to raise funds to help individuals and civic groups throughout the Palatine area.

The sale runs through Sunday, Dec. 18. Sale hours are: 6-9 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays; 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. The Aquatic Center parking lot is located on Palatine Road, just west of Northwest Highway, behind the Walgreens.

“This is my favorite season and being able to chair this project is a special treat,” said Dan Reinholtz, co-chairman of the project. “We will be offering a variety of fresh-cut, long and short needle trees, wreaths and garland at special pricing. Shoppers can choose from a selection of Scotch pine, blue spruce, Balsam fir, Douglas fir and Fraser fir in a variety of sizes at competitive prices.”

As an added feature to the sale, the Jaycees will be sponsoring a Santa’s Mailbox. Children can mail a letter to Santa from a mailbox on the Christmas tree lot. Santa will respond to any letter dropped in the box before Saturday, Dec. 17. Letters need to include a return address on the envelope.

“We do our best to make sure our customers are happy,” said Andy McCurley, co-chairman of the project. “We provide a variety of extra services for our customers. Baling is available to make transporting your tree easier. We have stands available that can help assure that your tree will stand straight and sturdy.”

“Our Christmas tree sale has always been one of my favorite projects,” said Chrissy Trilling-Raices, president of the Palatine Jaycees. “We get to share the holiday spirit with our neighbors. Then, the proceeds from the sale allow the Palatine Jaycees to continue its involvement in the community.”

This year, the Palatine Jaycees will donate nearly $10,000 during December to help Palatine people in need. The Jaycees will provide holiday gifts for four families and several more individuals in need through the Adopt-a-Family and Angel Tree programs. For underprivileged children, the Jaycees will co-sponsor a Kid’s Holiday Party for 150 deserving children Wednesday, Dec. 14, featuring crafts, games and donated gifts for each child. For seniors, they will sponsor a Holiday Party at the Senior Center Tuesday, Dec. 20, where seniors will receive gift cards and treats.

The Jaycees are also helping military families. During its Shopping Spree for Military Families project, the Jaycees will give out gift cards to 10 military families and provide personal shoppers to help the families make the holidays brighter.

The Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees is one of the nearly 100 local chapters and one of the largest chapters in Illinois. The Palatine Jaycees provide individuals between the age of 21-40 the opportunity to develop personal and leadership skills while serving their community.

Every year, the Palatine Chapter of the Jaycees conducts numerous programs to serve the community and accumulate funds for operation of the chapter and community donations. Included in these projects is the sand sale, Fourth of July festival, Christmas tree sales, the annual garage sale and other projects that benefit the community and help raise funds.

The Palatine Chapter holds a monthly general meeting at 7:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, at the American Legion Hall, on Palatine Road, in Palatine.
