Ind. higher ed. panel oks course, funding changes
INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is trying to make it easier for students to transfer between colleges and is giving money to colleges based on their performance.
The commission last week approved a new set of standards for Ivy Tech students that would be transferrable to the state’s four-year universities.
It also plans to give out $61 million based on performance to various colleges. The money amounts to 5 percent of the state’s higher education budget and will increase to 6 percent in 2014 and 7 percent in 2015. The money will be given to schools based on their graduation rate and the number of degrees earned by low-income students and awarded in science, technology, engineering and math fields.
