Chicago pushes for 12 new charter schools
The Chicago Public Schools wants to add 12 new charter schools over the next two years.
School officials say the new campuses would serve 9,200 students on the West Side and South Side of Chicago. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard are both major supporters of charter and alternative schools.
Ten of the proposed schools would replicate existing charters.
The city’s education board votes on the 12 proposed schools Wednesday.
