2 enter pleas in Ind. officer’s fatal shooting

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Two of the seven people indicted in July’s fatal shooting of a Terre Haute police officer have entered pleas in connection with the slaying.

The Tribune-Star reports 40-year-old Scott Griffy and 21-year-old Jesse Padgett II pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Terre Haute.

Griffy pleaded guilty to illegally possessing and illegally selling the handgun used to kill Officer Brent Long, while Padgett pleaded guilty to making a false material statement to police.

Authorities say Griffy sold a gun to Shaun Seeley, who then used it on July 11 to shoot Officer Brent Long before killing himself as Long was helping serve a warrant at a Terre Haute apartment.

Three other people indicted in Long’s shooting are expected to enter guilty pleas Tuesday on a variety of charges.
