Grcic, Lake Zurich top Highland Park in OT
Lake Zurich boys basketball coach Billy Pitcher stressed to his team that it never gave up against visiting Highland Park on Tuesday night.
The result was a 44-42 win in overtime, allowing the Bears to snap a three-game losing streak.
Mirko Grcic scored a game-high 22 points, including a pair in OT, for Lake Zurich (3-5), while Jeff O'Brien added 9.
Justin Peterson hit a 3-pointer in overtime for the Bears, who trailed 39-37 late in regulation.
Pitcher credited Brenden Seeger for “sprinting like he's never done before” to foul a Highland Park player who appeared to have an uncontested layup down the stretch. The player wound up missing both free throws to keep Lake Zurich within two.
Then at the end of regulation, O'Brien just beat the buzzer with a putback to force overtime.
Lake Zurich outscored Highland Park 5-3 in the extra session.
“It was a crazy game,” Pitcher said.
Jake Norcia led the Giants with 12 points. Seeger held the high-scoring talent to just 2 points after halftime.
