Nonprofits decorate trees for Geneva History Center contest

Submitted by AID

The Association for Individual Development has once again decorated a tree for the annual Geneva History Center Giving Tree Contest.

Seventeen area nonprofit groups have decorated trees for this year’s competition. The trees are on display now through Dec. 27 at the Geneva History Center, 113 S. Third St. in downtown Geneva.

The public can vote for their favorite tree by pledging a dollar to the tree and corresponding organization of their choice. There is no limit to the number of votes you may cast.

There are two ways to vote for your favorite tree. You can visit the Geneva History Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays to Saturdays, or view the trees and vote online at Geneva History Center’s website, www.genevahistorycenter.org.

The organization with the most votes keeps 100 percent of the money pledged to their tree. The remaining organizations split their pledges with the history center.

The Association for Individual Development is a nonprofit, community-based organization providing services to 5,400 individuals with disabilities, mental illnesses and special needs. More than 20 programs are available that offer these individuals opportunities to achieve independence and community inclusion.

Other organizations with Giving Trees on display include: International Organization of Good Templars, Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, Geneva Park District, Marklund, Kiwanis Club of Geneva, Elderday Center, National Alliance on Mental Illness DeKalb, Kane-South, and Kendall Counties Inc., Geneva Academic Foundation, Hearts of Hope, Geneva Mothers’ Club, Salvation Army Golden Diners-Geneva, Zellmer Childhood Disease Foundation NFP, Girl Scouts of the USA Geneva Service Unit, Conley Outreach Community Services, Geneva Green Market, and Ecker Center for Mental Health.
