Wheeling police arrest 19 during holiday campaign

Wheeling police made 11 drunken driving arrests and eight other significant arrests during the recent Thanksgiving holiday enforcement campaign, the department announced.

Officers also issued 65 safety belt citations, 33 of them during nighttime hours.

Law enforcement agencies throughout the state participated in the effort to get impaired drivers off Illinois roadways during the 2011 holiday season. The crackdown campaign featured high-visibility enforcement combined with a variety of outreach activities. Extra emphasis was given to late-night hours, as statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest motorists buckle up during this time of day.
