Purdue student killed by Amtrak train in Lafayette
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Authorities say a 20-year-old Purdue University student was killed after stepping in front of an Amtrak train as it approached a station in central Indiana.
The passenger train was en route to Chicago when it struck the man Thursday at the station in downtown Lafayette. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Hieatt tells the Journal & Courier that people on the train reported seeing the man walk onto the railroad tracks.
WLFI-TV reports that all rail traffic was halted for hours while crews cleared the track and that the train’s passengers were taken by bus to Chicago.
