Police investigating damages at N. Ind. cemetery

HOWE, Ind. — State police are investigating vandalism at a northern Indiana cemetery that caused several thousands of dollars in damages to tombstones that are more than 100 years old.

Police say someone knocked over and damaged a dozen or more tombstones at Pretty Prairie Cemetery near Howe, 50 miles east of South Bend. One tombstone was carried into the middle of the roadway and smashed on the street. Police say the damage was done on Dec. 4 or 5.

Police say some of the tombstones date back to the 1800s.

Police say there were other acts of vandalism in the area as well.
