Potential employers not being fair

Why are we not employable? Over the last 18 months to two years all of the employment agencies have told me that I am unemployable. The reason, because I haven’t worked in my field for at least 18 months and they have standards. What standards? My field of work has been credit/collections. Last time I checked, procedures haven’t changed.

There have been many stories in the papers and online about people who have been out of work for as long myself. I would be more understanding if this were about a job that required technical training. This is not even close to being that. Like the others, I have been working, taking on a number of odd jobs just to make ends meet. There is nothing more I’d like to do than be working full time and doing what I do best and enjoy.
