9-year-old hit by car, badly hurt in Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Police in Fort Wayne say a 9-year-old girl was seriously hurt when she was hit by a car while crossing a road soon after she got off a school bus.
An Allen County Sheriff’s Department spokesman says the bus had driven off Wednesday afternoon when the girl started to cross the road just outside a subdivision near Interstate 69. Officer Adam Griffith tells The Journal Gazette that the girl darted out and the car’s driver apparently didn’t have time to stop.
Griffith says the girl was conscious and in pain when emergency workers arrived. He says the girl was taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition.
The girl’s name wasn’t immediately released. No one was injured in the car that hit her.
