What’s to become of Pace bus?

Recently, while waiting for a No. 802 Pace bus on North Avenue, a woman remarked to me that she didn’t know what was going to happen to our bus service. When the bus came she asked the driver what he knew. He said he hadn’t been told what to expect but thought whatever would happen would be on Dec. 12.

I had noted the day before that bus stop signs had disappeared. I assumed this was due to vandalism.

I assume that the changes are due to lack of riders along the route. I take the bus to go to the grocery stores near Charlestowne Mall and to take the train to Aurora.

I have observed crowded buses in late afternoon people being picked up going north on Lake Street, obviously going home from work. Therefore, I assume that there are crowded buses going south in the morning.

Are all these regular riders and occasional riders regular riders of Pace buses and occasional riders like myself to be deprived of transport?

The situation reminds me of Chicago Mayor Daley’s midnight raid on Meigs Field a few years ago. Don’t warn anyone — do what you want.

Please enlighten us.
