Breast cancer comparison wrong

As a breast cancer survivor, I was alarmed by your Dec. 1 headline, “It’s Pulmonary Fibrosis and it’s as deadly as breast cancer.” As more and more women are getting their annual mammogram and the month of October is devoted to breast cancer awareness, we as a nation are seeing women live long, healthy and fulfilling lives after a breast cancer diagnosis. Your headline was distressing and, I believe, misleading.

Every diagnosis is different and treatment is tailored to the individual. My doctors at Northwestern Memorial are incredibly knowledgeable, educated and talented. They have given me a brighter outlook and positive prognosis throughout my treatment. Never once have I been told breast cancer is a death sentence. Despite your horrifying headline, I plan to enjoy a long, productive, healthy and happy life.
