Chicago to study ethics ordinance

The city of Chicago is forming a task force to recommend changes to the city’s ethics ordinance.

The ordinance governs conflicts of interest among city officials and employees.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel appointed four people to the task force Wednesday. It will be led by Cynthia Canary, who used to be director of the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform. The other panel members are former U.S. Attorney’s Office supervisor Sergio Acosta, Alderman Will Burns and Northwestern law professor and former Illinois Comptroller Dawn Clark Netsch.

Emanuel says the ethics ordinance is vague and doesn’t have mechanisms to deter abuse.
