IU gets $1 million gift for Marching Hundred Hall
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana University’s Marching Hundred band is a step closer to its goal of building a practice facility.
Jack and Dora Hamlin of Norfolk, Va., have given the school $1 million to help build the indoor facility. The university says the Jacobs School of Music has more than $2 million dedicated to the project, which is expected to cost $4.5 million to complete.
The school is looking to establish a permanent home for the Marching Hundred. The school says the band has been housed in a number of temporary rehearsal spaces since 1983. A lack of indoor space means rehearsals must be canceled because of bad weather.
The Hamlins met while attending Indiana University. Jack Hamlin played cornet in the Marching Hundred.
