Lombard Fire prepares for annual Toy Parade Dec. 10
LOMBARD, Illinois—“A scooter for Jimmy, a dolly for Sue, the kind that will even say ‘how do you do?'” seems a fitting theme for the Lombard Fire Department's annual toy parade, scheduled for Dec. 10.
The parade will begin at Lombard Fire Station 1 (50 E. St. Charles Road) and travel south on Main Street, making its way to Yorktown Center where the toys will be unloaded.
The Fire Department is asking families, community groups and businesses to “adopt a street” along the parade route. The toy parade, which will begin at Fire Station 1 (50 E. St. Charles Road) at 10:30 a.m., will collect toys on the west side of Main Street. Anyone wishing to make a donation is asked to stand along the parade route on the west side of Main Street and when the fire trucks pass by, firefighters and volunteers will collect the toys and bring them to Yorktown Center. Once the collection drive has ended, the toys will be distributed to the Lombard/Villa Park Food Pantry, First Things First and the Teen Parent Connection.
“What's different this year is that the sleigh will be out the entire week after the toy parade, giving people a chance to donate who can't get out for the toy parade,” said Lombard Firefighter/Paramedic Josh Hays, who is involved in organizing the toy parade
for the second year.
“I wish to thank everyone for their involvement in making this toy drive a success year after year,” Hays said. He commented that members of the Glenbard East baseball team will also be assisting this year.
In addition to the toy parade collection, items may be dropped off at the Village Hall, Fire Stations 1 and 2, Ace Hardware and Jewel Foods.
