Suspect sought in Arlington Heights car burglaries
Arlington Heights police are looking for a male teenager suspected of burglarizing several vehicles Saturday night along Kennicott and Verde drives.
The suspect, who fled from a break-in in the 1900 block of North Verde after being confronted by a witness, was described as while male between 15 and 16 years old without facial hair or glasses, according to police. He was last seen wearing dark colored pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Police believe the teen is responsible for five vehicle burglaries between 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday. In the first break-in, which occurred in an apartment parking lot in the 2400 block of North Kennicott, the burglar stole a Dell laptop computer, computer case and a GPS unit. A second car in the parking lot was entered and ransacked, but nothing appeared missing, police said.
Two more vehicles were burglarized in the 2000 and 2100 block of North Verde, police said. Among the items stolen were a gray leather purse containing credit/debit cards, a driver's license and wallet, and an Olive Garden coin purse.
Police said the suspect left behind the laptop computer, case and GPS unit when confronted at the scene of the fifth break-in. The purse taken in the third burglary also was found nearby, police added.
