Westlake Christian volleyball team has winning spirit

Submitted by Westlake Christian Academy

Westlake Christian Academy Girls Varsity Volleyball team showed dedication and perseverance during a tough season.

The teams they played this year were extremely strong, yet the Westlake varsity players went into each game with a positive attitude.

While the team did not finish with a winning record, individual players showed a lot of growth. Seniors Becca Christiansen and Megan Hogenkamp, captains of the team, led by example.

Junior Caroline Pickerall earned the nickname “The Wall” due to her blocking ability. Junior Hannah Flemming showed all around improvement in passing and serving. Sophomore Kalissa Goodwin was the team’s libero, a player specializing in the back row. Sophomore Stephaine Sewood improved in passing and serving, while sophomore Sarah Smith also showed improvement in passing.

Sophomore Clare Sensenig was new to the team this year; her ability to catch on to the game won her a first string position. Freshmen Mikayla Henke, Allie Jackson and Juli Bond all show potential for excellence in volleyball in the coming years.

Coach Jeanne Ptasienski said of her team, “As far as dedication, teamwork and perseverance are concerned, I couldn’t have asked for a better season.”
