Take an interest in how taxes are spent
I’m not certain what is more disturbing, the fact that there is the potential that many once again could pay more in taxes in Carpentersville or the fact that there was only a small turnout at the village meeting.
I’m certain that the vast majority of people are busy, do not understand the process or feel that attending a meeting to speak and not converse or just listen does no good. I’m also certain that the matter of setting a budget, the required process and satisfying both ends of the spectrum pose challenges for a government entity.
So, the question that I pose to the residents of Carpentersville is, do you care? If taxes are essentially fixed, it could mean less service or prolonged debt/cost you more later. It could also mean that we live within our current means today versus becoming an additional burden in today’s economy.
Attend a meeting or call/email a trustee — they represent you whichever side of the fence you sit on, but you have to be willing to make your voice heard.
