Ind. U studies jobs found by public college grads

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Indiana University researchers who looked at the work found by graduates of the state's public universities discovered that those who found jobs in manufacturing had the highest pay.

More graduates, however, found jobs in the lower-paying education and health care service industries.

IU says 221,000 people graduated from 2000 to 2005, and about half received bachelor's degrees. Of those, 59 percent remained in Indiana one year after graduation, but only 43 percent remained in the state five years after graduation.

The report, "How Education Pays: The Work Outcomes of Indiana's Postsecondary Graduates," also found that women were more likely to remain in Indiana five years after earning their degrees, while men tended to earn more than women.
