Honors for Illinois soldier killed in Afghanistan

SPRINGFIELD — The honorable transfer, visitation and funeral of a 21-year-old soldier from Illinois who was killed during combat operations in Afghanistan are scheduled to take place in the Quad Cities area.

Pfc. Adam E. Dobereiner died November 18 in Kandahar province of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.

He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade based at Fort Hood, Texas.

Dobereiner's remains will arrive Thursday at Quad City International Airport and will be transferred to Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematorium in Moline, where visitation will take place. The funeral will be held Friday at Broadway Presbyterian Church in Rock Island, with burial following at Rock Island National Cemetery.
