Learn how to cook healthy at tonight’s demonstration

The Men’s Health Task Force of American Cancer Society in collaboration with the Mariano’s Fresh Market and Grand Station Restaurant are launching an Eating Well Series aimed at helping consumers get inspired and motivated about healthy eating.

American Cancer Society volunteer Danny Serio and Mariano’s Market registered dietitian Peggy Balboa will present a cooking demonstration from 6:30 to 7:30 tonight at Grand Station, 101 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights.

The presentation will provide consumers cooking tips on how to rethink home cooking to make convenient, affordable yet nutritious and delicious meals for the whole family.

At the event, consumers will learn how to make entrees with salmon and chicken and will learn how to shop healthy, decipher food labels and reduce the risk of cancer through diet.

According to the American Cancer Society, a healthy diet in combination with regular exercise can reduce cancer risk by one third.

Eating a healthy diet, being physically active on a regular basis, and maintaining a healthy body weight are as important as not using tobacco products in reducing cancer risk.

Studies show just one in five consumers eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables.

To encourage foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, the American Cancer Society wants to educate the public about the benefits of eating well.

The American Cancer Society recommends everyone choose whole grains and limit processed and red meats and minimize saturated fats.

This demonstration will show firsthand how simple changes in the way food is prepared has an immediate impact on one’s health.
