Teen killed by city truck in Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — A Sheboygan teen walking to school was struck and killed by a city truck.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center Tuesday. Friends identify the victim as Jaime Olivas. He was crossing the street in front of Tower Academy when he was hit.

Public works officials say the driver of the leaf collection truck that struck the teen has worked for the city for 38 years and planned to retire in 10 days. Public works director Dave Biebel tells The Sheboygan Press the truck driver is distraught and is seeking counseling through a city program.
