Sensible Threadz, a discount retail and resale store at 208 S. Kirk Road in St. Charles, will host a Holiday Season Collection for Lazarus House in St. Charles. During the month of December, customers can bring in new or gently used sweatshirts and sweatpants sets, and they will receive an in-store credit between $2.50 and $5.
Sensible Threadz will be collecting all sizes, from infant through adults. The sweats will then be given to individuals who come to the shelter. This allows them to have a clean set of clothing to wear while their others are laundered or replaced for better items.
Lazarus House is a community emergency living center serving men, women and children connected to the school districts of St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County who are homeless or are at-risk. A safe shelter, food and support services are available. They are the only Emergency Shelter serving mid Kane County open 365 days a year. Emergency shelter staff is available 24 hours a day and can be reached at (630) 587-2144.
Since launching Sensible Threadz on Nov. 1, 2010, the store has supported many local community shelters and organizations, such as: Lazarus House in St. Charles in December 2010, with a gift collection for the children at the shelter; Northern Illinois Food Bank with food collections and cash donations; Conley Outreach in Elburn and The Life Center in Elgin last February and March with clothing donations; Interfaith Food Pantry in Batavia in May with a bedding and towel drive; Literacy Volunteers of the Fox Valley in August with a book drive; and Mutual Ground in Aurora in October with a coat drive.
During these hard economic times, Sensible Threadz has also assisted its customers in saving substantial clothing costs by allowing them to bring in their used, private label clothing items and receive cash or a double in-store credit to apply to other items in the store.
The store also carries more than 15 different local artisan handmade and custom-made accessory items. This allows members of the community to benefit by having their items on view locally and gives them an opportunity for a supplementary income.
