Wis. National Guard unit headed to Kuwait
MADISON, Wis. — More than 100 soldiers with an Oshkosh-based National Guard unit have been ordered to Kuwait.
About 130 members of the 1157th Transportation Company are expected to report for active duty in early 2012 for the deployment. A National Guard spokeswoman declined to say precisely when.
The soldiers will go through several weeks of mobilization training at Camp Shelby in Mississippi before heading to Kuwait for about nine months. They’re expected to provide base security and protect convoys.
The soldiers completed weapons and vehicle roll-over training at Fort McCoy earlier this month.
