Chicago sure O’Hare to remain key hub for American

Travelers at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport are expressing concern about American Airlines’ bankruptcy filing. But Chicago officials are confident the airline is taking necessary steps to ensure its future.

The parent company of American filed for bankruptcy protection Tuesday, and its new CEO says the airline would probably cut its flight schedule modestly while it reorganizes. American provides more than 30 percent of passenger service at O’Hare.

Chicago Department of Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino says the city has been reassured that O’Hare will remain a key hub for the airline.

Passenger Steve Varraso (vuh-RAH’-soh) says he’s slightly concerned about his frequent-flier miles, although experts have said the miles are safe. Another O’Hare traveler, Chicagoan Corina Fallbacher, says she’ll think twice before booking American in the future.
