Seizure blamed for fatal crash in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Police in Fort Wayne say a driver was killed in a crash after apparently suffering a seizure and a passenger wasn’t able to stop their vehicle.

The vehicle slammed into a utility pole and flipped onto its top during the crash Thursday on the city’s south side. Police say a woman tried to reach from the passenger seat to stop the vehicle but it swerved off the street.

Officer John Chambers tells The Journal Gazette that the driver, passenger and an infant in the back seat were properly restrained. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was hospitalized in serious condition and the infant in good condition.

The victims’ names weren’t immediately released.
