Finally, a plan for vacant Rolling Meadows shopping center?

Rolling meadows officials hinted that good news may be coming soon for the long-vacant Dominick's property on Kirchoff Road, but they aren't disclosing details until next month.

City Manager Barry Krumstok said a developer has expressed interest in purchasing the property and using Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funds for environmental cleanup, demolition and marketing.

More information will be revealed at the December meeting of the city's economic development committee, Krumstok said.

The grocery store closed in 2004, leaving a vacant shopping center at one of the city's main commercial intersections. A housing development was proposed in 2006, but never built.

The empty 11-acre parcel, which includes about 120,000 square feet of retail space, has long been a sore spot for the city as plans to develop it have never panned out.

Alderman John D'Astice said he doesn't yet know details of the plan, but is excited to hear that there may be movement. The economic development committee meets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
