Residents away when Barrington-area home catches fire

Barrington Fire Protection District investigators are trying to determine what caused a blaze that erupted Wednesday evening at a house in unincorporated Lake County.

Initial reports indicated the home in the 200 block of Weatherstone Road near Barrington was occupied. However, officials said, firefighters performed an aggressive search and no one was found inside.

Firefighters were summoned to the home at 8:08 p.m. Wednesday. They arrived to find a garage and more than one attic area of the house on fire.

Officials said the blaze was under control in a little more than an hour. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

An official cause of the fire had not been determined as of Thursday. A damage estimate was not immediately available.

Barrington firefighters received assistance at the scene from crews from Buffalo Grove, Carpentersville, Cary, East Dundee, Fox River Grove, Hoffman Estates, Lake Zurich, Palatine, Palatine Rural, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg and Wheeling.
