Armed robber strikes Batavia Subway

Batavia police are on the hunt for a man they say robbed a sandwich shop Wednesday night.

Police said the man displayed a black semiautomatic pistol when he stole an unspecified amount of cash from the Subway restaurant on South Randall Road about 8:40 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses described the suspect as a white man wearing gloves, sunglasses, a puffy blue jacket and a dark wool stocking cap with light stripes. The hat also had ear flaps and tassels, authorities said.

It's believed the suspect was in the Subway for about 25 seconds before fleeing with the cash. Police didn't have any information on what direction the suspect headed after the reported armed robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Batavia police Detective Gary La Barbera at (630) 454-2500.
