Landslide loser in E. Ind. election goes to court
NEW CASTLE, Ind. — The landslide loser in an eastern Indiana city’s mayoral election is going to court with a claim that the winner doesn’t live in the city.
The challenge in the New Castle mayoral race filed Tuesday by Republican candidate John Nipp maintains that while Democrat Greg York owns a house in the city he actually lives in a neighborhood outside the city limits and doesn’t meet the residency requirement.
York won this month’s election with 75 percent of the vote, with Nipp receiving 18 percent in a three-way race.
Henry County Democratic chairman Allan Bramlett tells The Courier-Times that Nipp has no basis to challenge York’s residency. Similar claims were made during the Democratic primary, and Bramlett says the city’s voters have spoken twice.
