8 children hurt in South Bend school bus crash
SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Authorities say eight South Bend elementary school students suffered minor injuries when a car struck their bus.
St. Joseph County sheriff’s Sgt. William Redman says the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday when the bus driver pulled out on a road and didn’t see an approaching car because of a combination of fog and sun.
Redman says the injuries appear to be mainly bumps and bruises and the injured children were taken to a hospital. The driver of the car went to a hospital with back and hip pain.
Redman says 45 students were on the bus headed for Hay Primary Center in South Bend. Another bus brought the other children to school.
The road was closed for about 90 minutes before reopening.
