Southern Ill. man accused of injuring infant

CARLYLE — A southern Illinois man is accused of injuring an infant by pulling the baby’s arms and legs and squeezing his ribs, leaving the child with several broken bones.

A grand jury in Clinton County has indicted 24-year-old Justin Rode of St. Rose on a charge of felony reckless conduct.

State’s Attorney John Hudspeth says the baby was recovering in a relative’s care.

A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says that the agency is investigating but has had no previous contact with Rode.

Prosecutors in nearby Bond County moved to revoke a two-year probation sentence Rode got last year after pleading guilty to aggravated domestic battery and violation of a protection order.

Rode is free on bond.

He does not have a listed home telephone number.
