Chicago man found guilty of running sex ring

A Chicago man has been convicted of running a sex trafficking ring that involved several teenage girls.

Six of the nine alleged victims testified against Datqunn Sawyer in federal court this month. Prosecutors say Sawyer coerced the girls to work as prostitutes and give him the money they made. They say he had sex with the girls and impregnated three of them, and that he threatened and beat the girls if they disobeyed him.

Two men who pleaded guilty before Sawyer’s trial testified that they worked for him as security guards and drivers for the girls.

The 32-year-old Sawyer was found guilty of 10 felony counts of sex trafficking and conspiracy charges. He faces life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for February 23.
