Volunteers needed to assist adapted ski outings this winter

The Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association is planning adapted ski programs this winter for local children, adults, and veterans with physical challenges. Alpine skiing, cross country skiing, and snowboarding at Wilmot Mountain will be offered in partnership with Adaptive Adventures, Great Lakes Adaptive Sports, and the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Sports Program.

Volunteers are needed to assist the participants with adapted skiing and snowboarding, and will be a key to the success of the program. Volunteer training is planned and volunteers are asked to attend at least one Dry Land Training session and one On Hill training session. Dry Land training is scheduled for Nov. 29, and the On Hill training is scheduled for Dec. 13 and Dec. 15. Please contact Dave Dauphin at NISRA at ddauphin@nisra.org for (815) 459-0737, ext. 248 for more details about the program and the volunteer training.

NISRA provides year round recreation and local Special Olympics for residents with disabilities in McHenry County and parts of Cook, Lake and Kane counties. Visit nisra.org for information.
