Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn Provides Humanitarian Service Project with $120 for Christmas Offering
The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn donated $120 to the Humanitarian Service Project's (HSP) Christmas Offering to aid in providing 2-3 weeks of nutritious food and Christmas gifts to families living in poverty. The club is devoted to the well-being of their community by giving time and financial aid to numerous charitable organizations. The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn holds several major fundraising events throughout the year that allow them to donate to the various organizations that it supports. The most recent was their peanut sale in September which puts 100% of the money raised back into the community. Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn is a major sponsor of the HSP and has been helping support the various programs that assist needy children, seniors and families with volunteer time and funds, for well over a decade.
During Christmas in 2010, HSP served 456 families with 1,200 children. 151 of these families received 3 weeks' worth of groceries and 5 gifts per child. Overall, the organization distributed more than 20 tons of food and toys, which is all made possible by donations of funds, gifts and food. Groups like the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn make this possible as the number of families provided support from the Christmas Offering goes up every year.
The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn, which was established in 1954, has been successful because of the camaraderie among the members which has made it one of the area's largest and most dedicated clubs. Members include community leaders, business people and private citizens who come together in the spirit of making a difference. The Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn meets the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 7AM to 8AM at the Glen Oak Restaurant in Glen Ellyn as well as the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30PM at Ki's Restaurant in Glendale Heights. Karole Kettering, Co-founder and Executive said, “We are deeply grateful for the steadfast dedication and support of the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn. Their commitment to the community and passion for helping those in need is very touching.” For information about the Kiwanis Club of Glen Ellyn visit their website at:

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP is given the highest honor charity by Charity Navigator for the seventh consecutive year. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,264 children received gifts and 150 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 700 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
