Arlington Heights resident writes book on bullying

This past summer I published a book that teaches an important lesson to children. That is the lesson of acceptance.

As a first-grade teacher and an Arlington Heights resident, I have seen the look on a child’s face when they are being teased or bullied about something that is beyond their control. These are scars that can last a lifetime. These moments inspired me to write a book that portrays leadership, friendship and the power of positive thinking.

“Wesley Reece: Fourth Grade Hero” is the story of a mischievous, nine-year-old boy, who steps up and befriends a student who is different. He becomes a hero for her when he outsmarts some bullies and saves her from a dangerous situation.

The main character, Wesley, is a likable character because he enjoys the occasional prank and a good video game. He is easy to relate to and faces some of the same issues other kids his age are facing. What makes him special is that he is not scared to stand up for himself or his friends.

This book has many great teaching themes throughout, and is appealing to children from ages 8-12. I chose this as my target age group because this seems to be the age when bullying increases and children start to notice when another child is different.

It has 40 pages and is available for purchase for about $10 from AuthorHouse.com, Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com.
