Services set for former southern Ill. sheriff
MOUND CITY, Ill. — Services will be held this week for a former sheriff of far southern Illinois’ Pulaski County.
KFVS-TV reports that Russell “Rusty” Dakin of Mounds was 66 when he died Friday at a hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Randy Jones of Jones Funeral Homes says Dakin died of natural causes.
Dakin served as sheriff of the county that’s along the Ohio River from 1978 to 1986, then again from 1999 until he retired in 2001.
He was a Vietnam veteran and former commander of the Pulaski County Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Mounds.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Burial with full military honors will be in Mound City National Cemetery.
