Police seek witnesses in crash that killed Waukegan man

A 21-year-old Waukegan man died after being thrown from an SUV that rolled over multiple times late Friday night, and a second man involved remains in critical condition, according to police.

Witnesses of the single-vehicle crash told police a white, 4-door vehicle struck Cameron L. Carter of Waukegan after he was ejected onto South Green Bay Road during the rollover.

Carter and 28-year-old Lebron Devost of North Chicago were traveling south on Green Bay Road near Adelaide Avenue in Beach Park when the 2002 Ford Explorer left the roadway for an unknown reason, according to the Lake County sheriff’s office.

Witnesses who saw the second vehicle strike Cameron Carter just before midnight while he was lying in the roadway could not determine a make or model due to darkness, according to police.

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call sheriff’s investigators at (847) 377-7021.

Lebron Devost was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he remained in critical condition Monday, according to police.

It is unclear which occupant was driving the SUV, police said.
