Chicago adds 1,800 cameras at train stations
Chicago has installed 1,800 new security cameras at public train stations six weeks ahead of schedule.
Mayor Rahm Emanuel says video from the cameras has been used to catch dozens of criminals this year, including the man charged this month of murdering a teenager in the Western suburb of Indian Head Park.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that three to five police officers monitor feeds from 3,000 cameras all over the city.
Since Emanuel announced an upgrade in June, officials say police have asked for video footage in more than 150 cases.
Asked if there were too many cameras after the latest installation, Emanuel says he believes cameras give city residents comfort that they’re safe from crime.
